TITLE: Research and Development Technician - 1 Year Contract

LOCATION: Onsite in Scarborough, ON

COMP RANGE: $53,000 to 65,000 annually

Compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.

Griffith Foods is hiring an R&D Technician, Sauces & Dressings to support the development of innovative sauces, dressings, condiments, and related food products. In this role, you will assist with product formulation, sample preparation, pilot plant activities, product evaluation, and technical project support from concept through commercialization.

As a Research and Development Technician, your responsibilities will include:
  • Batch samples and prepare sauces, dressings, condiments, and related products according to manufacturing instructions and formulations.
  • Maintain laboratory ingredient inventory, source materials, labels, and supplies, and manage approved ingredient inventories.
  • Conduct product evaluations, testing, experimentation, and support product development activities under the guidance of senior R&D team members.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, technical reports, presentations, and project documentation.
  • Operate laboratory, analytical, and pilot plant equipment including pH meters, viscometers, water activity meters, and texture analyzers.
  • Support plant trials, production trials, sensory evaluations, and product presentations.
  • Package and ship samples to customers and support interactions with suppliers and clients as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness, food safety, quality, and compliance standards within laboratory and pilot plant environments.

Qualified Candidates Will Have
  • Completion of a minimum 2-year College program in Food Science or a related field.
  • More than 1 year of relevant experience in food product development, laboratory environments, or food manufacturing.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications and laboratory documentation systems.
What Will Set You Apart
  • Culinary and/or Microbiology training.
  • Experience working with sauces, dressings, condiments, emulsions, dips, gravies, or similar liquid food systems.
  • Understanding of ingredient functionality including hydrocolloids, starches, proteins, oils, emulsifiers, and preservatives.
  • Experience with bench-top formulation, pilot plant processing, scale-up activities, sensory evaluation, and product troubleshooting
