A casual research assistant (RA) is required to add capacity in the research laboratory of Dr. Simon Gaham within the Physical Sciences Platform of Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI) at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC). The research activities will fall within the overall theme of the laboratory, involving development and application of advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods for studying the brain.
SummaryOf Duties
- Pulse sequence programming of MRI systems, enabling new imaging functionality
- Numerical simulations for initial refinement and optimization of pulse sequence designs
- Validation and verification testing of pulse sequences by collection of novel MRI data in tissue-equivalent test objects and human volunteers (with approval from the Sunnybrook Research Ethics Board)
- Image processing, data analysis and statistical testing
- Assistance with knowledge translation activities including preparation of scientific manuscripts, posters and website materials.
- Partial completion of an undergraduate science or engineering degree (3 years minimum)
- Familiarity with medical image processing
- Ability to work within an MRI environment
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary research group
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong skills in managing interpersonal interactions
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with initiative and accuracy
- Excellent time management, record-keeping and organizational skills.
The successful applicant will be expected to work within the larger context of SHSC/SRI. They will observe institutional and departmental rules and regulations, policies, procedures, practices, safety procedures and current legislation, in particular the Human Rights Code regarding discrimination and harassment. Confidentiality of patient, employee, graduate student and other research information will be maintained at all times, while working constructively and ethically with the other members of SHSC/SRI staff, volunteers, visitors, and patients.
