Postdoctoral Fellow - Clinical Data Science and Outcomes Research in Pediatric Diabetes

Temporary Full-Time (1.0 FTE), one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon performance and funding availability.

First 3 months on-site. After 3 month time period work type will be hybrid.

The research program of Dr. Farid Mahmud, Scientist and Pediatric Endocrinologist at The Hospital for Sick Children (Sick Kids) and Professor at the University of Toronto, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join a recognized pediatric diabetes research program focused on improving outcomes for children, adolescents, and young adults living with type 1 diabetes.

• Cardiovascular and kidney complications of diabetes
• Novel therapies, technologies, and lifestyle interventions
• Social, environmental, biologic, and socioeconomic determinants of health
• Precision medicine approach to diabetes care
• Long-term outcomes in children, adolescents, and young adults living with diabetes

The Postdoctoral Fellow will join a multidisciplinary pediatric diabetes research program focused on clinical outcomes, complications, precision medicine, and population health. The successful candidate will lead the harmonization and analysis of large longitudinal research datasets, develop novel research questions, and drive scientific productivity through first-author publications, conference presentations, and grant-supported research initiatives. Working closely with investigators, research staff, statisticians, trainees, and collaborators, the Fellow will contribute to a high-impact research agenda focused on improving outcomes for youth living with diabetes.

• Harmonize, curate, validate, and manage complex longitudinal research datasets.
• Develop integrated research databases and analytic resources.
• Generate novel scientific hypotheses and lead associated research projects.
• Conduct advanced statistical analyses using clinical, observational, and cohort data.
• Lead manuscript preparation and publication as first author in peer-reviewed journals.
• Present research findings at national and international scientific meetings.
• Contribute to grant applications, study protocols, and future research initiatives.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary investigators and international research partners.
• Mentor students and trainees within the research program.

• PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health, Data Science, Clinical Research, Health Sciences, or a related discipline.
• Strong experience managing and analyzing large clinical or research datasets.
• Proficiency in R, SAS, Stata, Python, or equivalent statistical software.
• Demonstrated scientific writing experience with peer-reviewed publications.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong attention to detail and project management skills.

• Experience working with longitudinal cohort studies, registries, or clinical trial datasets.
• Experience in diabetes, endocrinology, cardiovascular, renal, or population health research.
• Experience in data harmonization, database development, and research data architecture.
• Expertise in advanced epidemiologic and longitudinal statistical methodologies.
