Candidates without significant prior experience as operational meteorologists are recruited through the Meteorologist Occupational Training Program (MOTP) as Intern Meteorologists (MT-01). Candidates with a minimum of 2 to 3 years' prior work experience as operational meteorologists forecasting the weather are recruited for Developmental Meteorologist (MT-02) and Operational Meteorologist (MT-03) positions.

Candidates applying for positions at the MT-02 level will only be considered for operational positions in a prediction centre. Applicants with an interest in this Research and Development (R&D) specialization (including numerical weather prediction modelling, environmental numerical forecasting, data assimilation, and/or computer science) are encouraged to indicate this in their cover letter.
The Canadian Centre for Meteorological and Environmental Prediction (CCMEP), located in Dorval, Quebec, is the R&D centre responsible for MSC's numerical weather and environmental prediction systems. Note that all candidates must meet the essential qualification of experience in operational meteorology to be considered, regardless of whether they are interested in an operational or R&D role.
