POSITION SUMMARY:
More Than a Haircut (MTAH) is an exciting program that connects with Afro-Caribbean fathers and father figures. Working from the principle that “dads are an important person in their child’s life,” MTAH seeks to foster parenting skills and confidence. In collaboration with the community, the MTAH Coordinator designs and delivers a range of programs, including barbershop sessions, to strengthen the capacity of Afro-Caribbean men in their role as fathers and father figures.
Develops and implements various community engagement strategies including a community advisory committee.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and deliver MTAH programs, using a strength-based, anti-oppression approachWork actively with community partners to develop and strengthen and increase community engagementWork with MTAH stakeholders to clarify the goals, objectives, outcomes and activities of MTAH, and to facilitate the design and delivery of an evaluation of MTAHProvide individualized supports, such as referrals to community programs for MTAH program participantsMaintain accurate and complete program statics and records and prepare reports as requiredAttend agency staff meetings and training, team meetings and special events.Maintain optimal attendance at work.Mentor or supervise students and volunteersPerform other tasks as delegated or assignedWork in compliance with all applicable regulations and lawsComply with all Macaulay policies, practices and quality standards.Work to further Macaulay’s mission, vision, values and strategic directions.QUALIFICATIONS:
University degree in a related field, such as a Social WorkMember in good standing with professional college (if applicable)Five (5) years’ experience providing parent support and/or community development.Demonstrated experience working with individuals and groups and extensive knowledge of community resources.Knowledge, understanding and lived experience of issues impacting on parenting for Afro-Caribbean fathersExperience developing programs that address factors affecting parenting in the context of the wider community and societyStrong background in group facilitationOutstanding problem solving, conflict resolution and decision-making skillsExcellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and listening skillsComputer literacy required together with proficiency using Microsoft Office SuiteDemonstrated ability to build and maintain effective work partnerships with families, colleagues and service providers of diverse backgrounds, abilities and identitiesAbility to communicate effectively in more than one language an assetExcellent time management skills and demonstrated ability to prioritizeStrong understanding of teamwork and independent practice with the ability to work effectively to contribute to high performing teams.Ability to work evening and weekend hours as requiredAcceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Reference CheckSALARY: More Than A Haircut Program Coordinator Hourly Rate:
