Rosalie Hall is a Young Parent Agency and accredited Children’s Mental Health Centre dedicated to providing specialized care and treatment for young parents, their infants, and children. Our services include high quality learning and supportive child care program, infant mental health treatment, Live-In Treatment Residence, and a wide range of outreach programs for young families in need. Each year, we deliver evidence-based treatment to more than 1,000 individuals, with an additional 3,000 supported through outreach and drop-in services.
Serving Toronto communities since 1914, and operating from our Scarborough facility since 1956, Rosalie Hall carries forward the Misericordia tradition of over 150 years of service. The Intake Counsellor reports to the Manager, Day Programs and Community Services. Working within an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, trauma-informed, harm reduction, disability justice, and mental health recovery framework, the Intake Counsellor will conduct comprehensive assessments, connect families to services including housing support, parenting education, childcare, and case management, and provide crisis intervention when necessary.
You will work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team while managing an independent caseload of intake assessments.
Summary of Duties- Create welcoming intake experiences that build trust and reduce barriers for families who may have had negative experiences with service systems
- Respond to initial inquiries from young parents via phone, email, walk-ins, and virtual platforms with warmth and professionalism
- Offer brief service (as appropriate) to clients during the intake/ assessment period
- Conduct thorough intake assessments to understand each family’s unique circumstances, strengths, needs, and goals
- Connect families to appropriate Rosalie Hall programs including housing support, parenting groups, childcare, and life skills training
- Work closely with case managers to ensure continuity of care as families move from intake to ongoing programming
- Enter accurate, detailed client information into our database systems while maintaining strict confidentiality protocols
- Maintain current knowledge of community resources, eligibility requirements, and service gaps affecting young parents.
- Build and maintain strong referral relationships with community agencies serving young families in Scarborough and the GTA
- Make timely emergency referrals to community partners for shelter, healthcare, child protection, and other critical services
- Follow all mandatory reporting protocols related to child welfare while maintaining therapeutic relationships with families
- Participate in case conferences and clinical meetings in order to ensure the coordination of services and a continuum of care, as well as maintaining relationships with partner organizations
- Maintain all aspects of confidentiality relating to clients, volunteers, staff, programs, community members and community partners
- Provide mentorship, training and/or supervision to student placements and volunteers
- Participate in team meetings regularly and promote the healthy functioning of the team
- Participate in ongoing training and education.
- Participate in supervision sessions and annual performance appraisals with supervisor
- Maintain appropriate records and documentation in a timely manner and collect statistical data required for the accountability of the program
- Represent the team on internal and/or external staff committees as directed by supervisor
- CYW Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years related experience in social services
- Excellent oral and written English communication fluency
- French or other second language(s) is a strong asset
- Demonstrated experience supporting vulnerable young families with mental health and substance use issues from an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, harm reduction, trauma informed, and mental health recovery approach
