- Support community through outreach initiatives (IE program and workshop development, facilitation, training) and individual case management (IE internal/external referrals, appointment support).
- Develop reciprocal relationships with community members, other collaterals and stakeholders.
- Educate and empower other service providers to address the issue of human trafficking in Toronto’s Indigenous community on a larger scale.
- Support the relationship building between the Bekaadendang Team and other agencies.
- Alongside the Supervisor and the rest of the team, develop programming to address service/support gaps.
- Provide accessible and culturally‑based support and interventions to help Indigenous youth establish and maintain balance in their lives.
- Co‑create and facilitate group activities (circles) and related events.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date case files and written reports.
- Work as part of a team and communicate effectively to other staff.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Preferred candidate will have a BSW degree and 1‑2 years relevant experience and/or a combination of relevant experience, especially working with youth and adult survivors of sexual violence.
- Recognized and respected by his/her own community as someone who has lived experience and a learned understanding of Indigenous worldviews and traditional teachings, carrying themselves within community according to those teachings.
- Is an active participant in community and ceremony.
- Understanding of human trafficking, sex work, sex trafficking, choice, coercion, and control, impacts on Indigenous communities, and other related challenges.
- Understanding of Harm Reduction Model especially around substance use, safer sexual practices, and mental health.
- Knowledge and experience working with 2
SLGBTQA+ community members. - Knowledge of local community agencies and other professional services.
- High literacy in Indigenous culture(s), and a concrete understanding of the unique dynamics that exist within the community.
- Knowledge of the legislation pertaining to various systems, including the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, the Criminal Code, Anti‑Oppressive Practice, and The Youth Justice etc.
- Skills in the delivery of training and group programs/workshops.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, counseling and de‑escalation skills.
- Excellent intake assessment, crisis intervention, advocacy and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent analytical, time‑management, organizational skills.
- Strong report writing, communication and computer skills.
- Respect for confidentiality and limits to confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently, with the ability to run occasional evening groups with other staff upon community request.
