6 Month Maternity Leave Coverage Contract (June 1st, 2026 – Dec 31st, 2026)
Full-Time Unionized Position
For 50 years Nellie’s has been providing shelter and support for marginalized women and their children in the Greater Toronto Area. We operate programs and services for women and their children who have experienced violence, poverty, and homelessness. Nellie’s aims to lessen homelessness for women and their children whether the cause is family violence, mental health, or trauma-related impacts.
Nellie’s operates Community Support and Outreach programs that provide aftercare support and follow-up services to women and their children after they leave the shelter, as well as transitional housing support for women living in the community who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless.
The THX Program provides outreach support to women and gender diverse people who are currently experiencing or have experienced gender-based violence and who may also be facing mental health and substance use challenges. The THX Program Worker works directly with these individuals and families, providing client-centered case management support. Case management includes housing, income, mental health, substance use, legal, immigration, employment, education, and referrals to community supports.

Support is provided from a harm reduction and trauma-informed perspective. The THX Program Worker is responsible for crisis intervention, advocacy support, accompanying clients to appointments, collaborating with community agencies, and developing safety and transition plans. The THX Program Worker supports individuals and families in the community who can be located anywhere in the City of Toronto.

Responsibilities    Case Management   Provide one-on-one case management support, including housing, income, mental health, substance use, legal, immigration, employment, education and referrals to community supports.
Develop and implement client-centered safety plans and transitional support plans with short-term and long-term goals.
Assist clients in applying for subsidized housing and special priority for people experiencing domestic violence or human trafficking.
Assist clients to search for private market housing and access rent supplement programs where eligible.
Coordinate moving supports and access financial assistance (Housing Stabilization Fund, Rent Bank); refer to Furniture Bank and Shelter Movers. Provide eviction prevention, landlord advocacy, and access to legal advice and landlord and tenant board hearings.
Support income benefits applications (Ontario Works, ODSP, EI, CPP, OAS, child benefits); refer to tax clinics and assist with budgeting or referrals to financial management supports.
Provide mental health and substance use support from a harm reduction and trauma-informed perspective; refer to clinical supports as needed.
Assist clients to access food banks and food security programs.
Support clients in securing legal assistance, preparing for court, and accompanying to court.
Support immigration efforts by connecting to community resources and securing legal assistance.
Assist clients with parenting resources, childcare subsidies, childcare programs, and school registration.
Provide accompaniment to appointments and services when appropriate.
Attend case management meetings and conferences with internal and external teams to coordinate continuum of support and referrals.
Collaborate with community agencies to support client needs.

Crisis Intervention   Provide crisis intervention and support clients in developing crisis management, de-escalation, and grounding skills.
Provide overdose prevention education and information for safer drug use, safer sex supplies, disposal of used equipment, and harm reduction supplies.
