Position Title: Youth Drop In Worker (Regular Full-Time)

Position SummaryReporting to the Supervisor of Native Youth Resource Center, the Youth Drop In Worker will: providing direct service to Indigenous youth (16-29 years old) experiencing problems that prohibit them from reaching their full potential.
Key Responsibilities- Providing support to Indigenous youth on site and in community (when required)
- Developing and implementing program delivery of drop‑in services
- Providing referrals to traditional Indigenous cultural resources pertinent to the needs of indigenous youth
- Developing and implementing life‑skill and cultural workshops
- Developing community resources related to basic needs of homeless and at‑risk Indigenous youth, and assisting in the delivery of case‑management services for youth involved with the criminal justice system
- Ensuring that a full range of options are available to youth who are ready to take tangible steps toward achieving their potential
- Supporting youth with school curriculum and resources to enhance learning
- Providing group activities (circles) to youth in need of individual support such as crisis intervention, dispute resolution, and other supportive intervention
- Providing healthy food options to youth/community during programming
- Developing activities and overseeing the smooth running of the drop‑in program
- Maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date written reports and daily data collection as per funding agreements
- Maintaining statistics and data collection using CASEWORKS and ICE TOOLS
- Conducting outreach activities that include attending cultural community events, visiting schools and other social service agencies, and maintaining a social media presence
- Completing and submitting reports at the end of each shift to identify outreach findings and trends
- Being available to work a weekly schedule from Tuesday to Saturday—11 am‑7 pm weekdays and 9 am‑5 pm on Saturdays
- Outreach regularly to ensure services are provided to youth in need
- Other related duties and responsibilities as required
- Post‑secondary education at the community college level in Child and Youth Work or related field, or actively working toward post‑secondary education within the field
- High literacy in Indigenous culture
- Lived experience as an Indigenous person with the ability to transfer traditional knowledge and teachings, respecting the unique cultural distinctions and variations found throughout Turtle Island
- Current vulnerability sector screening—Police Reference Check—and willingness to obtain a new one upon hire
- Flexibility to work days, evenings, and weekends
- Knowledge of developmental stages of children and youth
- Knowledge/understanding of the unique dynamics that exist within First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; organizational skills; initiative and respect for confidentiality
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to integrating the Native Child and Family Services of Toronto mission and values into practice, service and relationships
- Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety practices and an employee’s responsibilities under current legislation
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, maintaining effective communication and working relationships, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, tact, sensitivity, and building strong internal relationships
- Available to work a weekly schedule from Tuesday to Saturday—11 am‑7 pm weekdays and 9 am‑5 pm on Saturdays
