Kwanlin Dun is looking for Auxiliary on-call Outreach Support Workers to work in our Health and Wellness Department Outreach Services team. The ideal candidate understands the importance of providing compassionate, culturally safe support. They will help clients understand available services, provide education, make appropriate referrals, and connect individuals and families with the resources that best meet their needs. By building trusting relationships and supporting community wellness, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Kwanlin Dün First Nation community members.
Required QualificationsWe screen/look for on your resume. An equivalent combination of post‑secondary education, combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified below, will equally be considered.
- Basic education in the social sciences and/or addictions field gained through certificate or diploma level coursework;
- Two years experience in providing outreach and supportive services for community health or social services programs;
- Knowledge of the socio‑economic history of Yukon First Nations and the history of residential schools in the Yukon, and the intergenerational impacts of residential schools on individuals, families and communities;
- Lived experience is equally considered with a strong understanding of healing and wellness journey;
- Basic charting or documentation skills.
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment both household and office, including cell phone, facsimile, computer, calculator and photocopier.
- Good time management and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Demonstrated skill in program planning and support
- Knowledge of harm reduction principles and the ability to apply them in practice.
- Ability to collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team in the circle of care model.
Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on‑going intergenerational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.
Conditions of EmploymentFirst Aid & CPR‑C (or willingness to obtain within six months of employment);
Food Safe Level (or willingness to obtain within six months of employment);
Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Clearance;
Valid Class 5 Drivers License and annually maintain an acceptable Driver’s Abstract (Class 4 is an asset); TB Clearance;
Immunization record;
