The Role

The Senior Settlement Worker will equip eligible clients (including adults, families, and young people from migrant/refugee background), to address their identified settlement needs in order to improve social participation, economic well-being, independence, personal well-being and community connectedness more broadly.

The Senior Settlement Worker is responsible for the provision of high-quality case management (Low Medium and High intensity casework) and community development initiatives. The position operates within MiCare’s Integrated Family/Client Service.

Key Result Areas
  • Deliver high-quality, needs-based case management for eligible clients within specified time frames as defined by program guidelines, including clients with complex needs and high-intensity support requirements.
  • Deliver group sessions, community projects, programs and activities as required by role/location.
  • Successful engagement and collaboration with relevant stakeholders and groups to enhance settlement outcomes for newly arrived Humanitarian Entrant clients and communities.
  • Accurate record keeping, compliance with legislative and organisational standards, financial accountability where applicable, and contribution to continuous improvement and team development
What We’re Looking For Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Community Services, Human Services or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Understanding of refugee and migrant settlement needs, systemic barriers and complex settlement challenges
  • Knowledge of strengths-based case management, community development and community capacity-building approaches in the Settlement context.
  • Knowledge of settlement policies, referral protocols and relevant legislative frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of relevant Commonwealth and State legislation, Child Safe Standards, MARAM Framework, Information Sharing Schemes and related social policy environments with demonstrated ability to respond flexibly to changing policy and program needs
  • Experience supporting people from migrant and refugee backgrounds through learning and social engagement opportunities.
  • Demonstrated experience in casework/case management, including complex needs assessment, case planning, review, referral, advocacy and coordinated support responses
  • Demonstrated experience supporting clients experiencing crisis and presenting with multiple or complex needs.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and responding to emerging needs of individuals and communities in both group work and casework contexts, and in partnership with other agencies
Essential skills
  • Excellent relationship management and communication skills, including the ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with individuals, communities and key stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to provide guidance and support to students, volunteers and project workers.
  • Demonstrated skills in report writing, client data/records collection and entry.
  • Strong administration and time management skills. Ability to prioritise and work to deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a culturally sensitive and trauma-informed manner within an ethno-specific environment.
  • Ability to work autonomously and with others in a participative and supportive manner.
  • Sound computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
