Position Summary
Our client is seeking a Lead Systems Developer to join their IT team. The role extends beyond coding to encompass a deep understanding of software development across industries. They are seasoned professionals with specialized skills in specific technology sets, honed through years of industry experience. A Lead Developer is proficient in programming, software design, testing, and maintenance, and excels in software development methodologies.

We expect clean, maintainable code, effective debugging, and strong development and operations practices. Communicative skills are essential to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences, including stakeholders and non‑technical team members.

Key Responsibilities

Plan, document, and determine technologies and options for a working solution of large to extra‑large complexity

Lead the approach, planning, and delegation of work for large to extra‑large complex initiatives

Strategic planning and design of projects

Exercise expert decision‑making authority, especially in technical matters; make high‑level decisions about technology stack and system design patterns and resolve technical disputes within the team

Lead, develop and implement system features ranging from large to extra‑large complexity by writing new code and optimizing existing codebases

Develop reusable frameworks and technical components to facilitate future development efforts

Serve as the Architect Owner within the Agile methodology, guiding the delivery team's architectural decisions and strategies

Provide developmental guidance and coaching to junior developers to enhance their skills and knowledge

Engage in mentorship to foster professional growth and development within the team

Cultivate relationships that contribute to a collaborative and supportive work environment

Advocate for and promote best practices to ensure high‑quality and consistent outcomes in all projects

Required Qualifications

Post‑secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline

Guidewire ACE certification

Extensive development experience with the Guidewire suite of products throughout the delivery lifecycle/system development lifecycle

5 or more years of experience in Object‑Oriented Programming languages using JAVA technology

Experience in P&C Insurance industry

Preferred Qualifications

Critical thinking skills to recognize assumptions, evaluate arguments, draw conclusions, and proactively propose solutions

Strong communication skills to clearly convey messages and explore diverse points of view

Ability to build trusting relationships and provide guidance to support the development of colleagues
