Description
We are hiring for this position out of our Toronto office. Successful candidates who apply outside of these areas will be expected to relocate and reside in a location that is within a commutable distance.
About the role:
The Software Engineer IV plays a strategic role in designing, building, and maintaining high-quality software solutions that support Peoples Group’s business objectives. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a collaborative mindset. You will be expected to lead by example, mentor junior developers, and drive best practices across the development lifecycle.
About the day-to-day:
Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code that meets business and technical requirements.Lead the implementation of new features and resolution of complex bugs.Ensure code adheres to established standards, security protocols, and industry best practices.Collaborate closely with developers, QA engineers, and product owners in Agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.Provide technical leadership in team discussions and architectural decisions.Conduct thorough code reviews to ensure quality, consistency, and maintainability.Offer constructive feedback and coach team members on coding standards and design patterns.Troubleshoot and debug issues in both development and production environments.Refine user stories and clarify requirements with product owners.Estimate effort and plan tasks for upcoming sprints, contributing to roadmap discussions.Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.Mentor junior developers and foster a culture of continuous learning.Write unit tests and perform development testing to ensure system performance and reliability.Monitor application performance and optimize code for scalability and efficiency.Implement and review security measures to safeguard applications and data.Collaborate with business and technical teams to build and enhance APIs.Ensure APIs are well-documented, secure, and meet performance standards.About the qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of experience in software development, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor team members.Strong proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., Java, C#, Python, JavaScript).Experience with Agile methodologies and full software development lifecycle.Deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and testing strategies.Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), CI/CD pipelines, and Dev Ops practices.Experience with API development, integration, and documentation.Strong problem-solving skills and ability to navigate complex technical challenges.Excellent communication and collaboration skills.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.About us:

About the work environment:
Peoples Group offers a flexible and hybrid work environment. In this role you will work a combination of in-office and remotely from home. Typically, you'll be working regular business hours, Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 4:30pm with flexibility around start/end times.
