Consultant, Back End Developer

About the Role

Application Developer in CIBC’s Core Banking and Payments Technology Team – working on digital transformation, building flexible and personalized banking solutions that enhance client experience.

• Assist in developing, testing, and supporting the implementation of cross‑functional, multi‑platform application systems.
• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Go and Java.
• Build full‑stack solutions that integrate with multiple systems, data sources, and external APIs.
• Participate in technical design, integration, and deployment of application systems.
• Work with stakeholders, end users, business analysts and technical resources to gather requirements and prepare design specifications.
• Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot, optimize, and continuously improve the platform.

• 1+ years experience in payment systems.
• 2–3 years experience in Go (Golang) or Java.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases (Azure Postgre
  
  SQL, Azure SQL, Oracle) – schema design, query tuning, migrations.
• 2–3 years experience integrating APIs and event‑driven systems (e.g., Solace).
• 1–2 years experience with Docker, Kubernetes/Open Shift, and CI/CD pipelines (Git Hub Actions).
• Proficient with Bash, Power Shell and optionally Python.
• Familiarity with mTLS, JWT and secure API design practices.
• Understanding of Open Telemetry, Prometheus, Splunk or similar monitoring and tracing frameworks.
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Asset: experience in Azure cloud environments, micro‑service architecture, service mesh (e.g., Istio).
• Knowledge of financial, payments or high‑throughput transaction systems.
• Experience in performance tuning and capacity planning of distributed systems.
