COMPANY OVERVIEW

BRL Studio® is the in‑house creative agency for Brodie Rec. League, supporting a rapidly growing sports brand operating across 20+ North American cities and serving more than 50,000 athletes.

Brodie Rec. League is more than a basketball league, it’s a community. As one of North America’s fastest‑growing sports brands, Brodie League is redefining adult recreational basketball by delivering an elevated, professional‑quality experience rooted in culture, competition, and community. Our mission is to make every league night the best night of the week for our athletes.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to own the design of the Brodie app’s engagement and retention layer. You'll design progression systems including XP, levels, badges, archetypes, challenges, rewards, and re‑engagement experiences that keep athletes connected to the league between game nights. This is a high‑impact role with ownership of one of the most important product initiatives on our roadmap and a hard Fall 2026 launch deadline.

You’ll work directly with our Product Design Director, CEO, and app Engineering team in fast product cycles – taking features from problem to wireframe to high‑fidelity prototype to shipped product, then iterating based on real player behaviour. The right person is a systems thinker who designs fast, communicates clearly, and uses modern tools – including AI – to multiply their output.

CORE

RESPONSIBILITIES Gamification, XP & Challenges (Primary Focus)

The progression layer that turns every game, post, and check‑in into a reason to come back.

  • Design the XP economy: points, levels, tiers, and unlockables – including earn rates, decay, season resets, and anti‑gaming protection

  • Design the badge and archetype systems, including art direction with our 3D asset pipeline

  • Design the weekly challenge / quest system: personal quests, weekly goals, city‑vs‑city challenges, streak mechanics, leaderboards, and challenge invites

  • Design reward loops: milestones, partner rewards, and membership & loyalty integration

  • Run a liveops design cadence: weekly challenge refreshes, seasonal events, limited‑time drops

  • Work our Live Ops rhythm: weekly player / captain / team health‑score reviews feed what you design and ship next

Push Notifications & Re‑Engagement
  • Own notification strategy and the notification design system: triggers, copy patterns, deep links, segmentation, and quiet hours

  • Design game‑day flows (reminders, score drops, post‑game stat pop‑ups) and challenge/streak triggers

  • Grow push opt‑in and keep notification health strong (CTR up, fatigue and unsubscribes down)

  • Partner with our lifecycle / CRM team so push, email, and in‑app messaging behave as one system

Mobile App Design
  • Design end‑to‑end user flows for new features (onboarding, social activity feed, messaging, events, game film)

  • Own the home dashboard — awards, badges, challenges, and activity feed

  • Create high‑fidelity screens and interactive prototypes; work with engineering for pixel‑perfect implementation

  • Conduct design QA on Test Flight and staging builds

  • Iterate based on behavioural data, session analytics, and player feedback

Design System & Brand Consistency
  • Maintain and extend our component library in Figma – including new gamification surfaces (badges, challenge cards, shareable graphics)

  • Ensure brand consistency across all digital product

  • Create reusable patterns and templates that scale; document design decisions and standards

REQUIREMENTS
  • 5+ years of product design experience on mobile‑first consumer apps with real users at scale

  • You've taken progression, reward, loyalty, or retention features from concept to launch and can speak to the results they achieved

  • Expert‑level Figma skills (components, auto‑layout, prototyping, design systems)

  • Fluent in engagement metrics — D1/D7/D30 retention, DAU/WAU, opt‑in rates, funnel analysis (Mixpanel, Amplitude, or similar)

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating end‑to‑end product design (not just UI skins) – include at least one progression or retention system case study

  • Strong prototyping skills…
