Associate Platform Engineer will have hands-on experience in application design, development, and operations that leverage such technologies as React, Node JS, Java 8, RESTful services, and Microservices.
Event Exchange is an enterprise grade platform providing Event management for bank events that will be used by applications, services, and systems across Scotia Bank. It ingests data from existing sources and makes all of this data available to its external consumers in a safe and secure manner, driving reuse, scalability, and data availability.
The incumbent should be a quick learner and adept at troubleshooting and problem solving in a highly integrated cloud environment. Experience with continuous integration and deployment methodology is an asset.
The individual is comfortable working with business and technical staff ensuring systems are designed and maintained according to enterprise architectural standards. They collaborate with team members, utilizing agile best practices and metrics to build high-quality technology solutions in line with the product's vision.
It is essential that the incumbent is proactive, eager to learn, has a "Can Do" attitude, and demonstrates initiative and eagerness to succeed.
In this role, you will:- Champion customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Provide system analysis, object-oriented design/programming, technical documentation, and support for existing and new applications and systems.
- Recommend best practices and enhancements that align with the bank’s technology roadmap.
- Work with the project team to refine technical requirements and provide technical design and guidance based on industry best practices.
- Perform coding, unit testing, debugging, documenting, and implementing applications and scripts.
- Participate in estimation and planning of development efforts for various projects and enhancements.
- Maintain, support, and enhance existing applications and participate in regular code reviews for release activities.
- Lead implementation efforts for code deployments to non-production and production environments.
- Participate in production issue analysis and perform root cause analysis for production and implementation issues.
- Assist product owners and business analysts in discovering the current system behavior and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

- Technical working experience with Core Java (Version 8 or higher)/Java, JDK
17+. - Basic understanding of Spring framework – Spring Boot and Kafka.
- Familiarity with SOAP/REST, IntelliJ or Eclipse IDE.
- Experience with GIT, Bitbucket, Gradle, Maven, Jira, Confluence, or similar tools for building CI/CD pipelines.
- Basic understanding of Google Cloud and Kubernetes.
- Experience in an agile environment and collaboration tools – JIRA, Confluence.
- Customer-first mindset while providing technology solutions to business problems.
- English proficiency; good written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent team player with experience in an Agile environment.
- Good organizational skills, strong problem-solving abilities.
- Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic environment.
- Reliability, pro-active, results-oriented, customer-focused and detail-oriented.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering/mathematics discipline (minimum).
