Senior Engineer - Software

Microchip’s FPGA software engineering team develops advanced Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools to empower customers to program and optimize Microchip FPGAs. This role focuses on compiler development (LLVM/MLIR-based) within the High-Level Synthesis (HLS) group, contributing to innovative system‑level FPGA design solutions.

• Develop, verify, and maintain advanced analysis and transformation passes for our high‑level synthesis compiler.
• Optimize HLS‑generated hardware architectures for power, performance, and area.
• Analyze real‑world customer applications to uncover performance and area improvement opportunities, implementing new HLS features as needed.

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Excellent programming skills in C/C++.
• At least 2 years of hands‑on experience with LLVM/MLIR.
• Solid understanding of algorithms and data structures.
• Strong background in digital design principles.

• Experience with MLIR.
• Hands‑on experience with FPGAs.
• Familiarity with high‑level synthesis tools.
• Proficiency with Git.
• Experience with Python, Bash, or Tcl scripting.
• Comfortable working on large‑scale software projects in Linux and Windows environments.
