Intermediate Backend Engineer

Lush Handmade Cosmetics is a global enterprise with more than 900 retail shops in 52 countries. The company produces creative and indulgent cosmetics and bath products using organic fruits and vegetables, essential oils, and safe synthetics while supporting sustainable communities and fair‑trade sourcing.

Lush Digital leads digital strategy across the business, creating, developing, and supporting the tools that drive commerce online, in retail, and in manufacturing. The team works across design, art, photography, engineering, systems, and data to meet all of Lush’s digital needs.

As an Intermediate Backend Engineer you will develop backend services and tooling that support the global business. You will work with custom software, REST APIs, GraphQL subgraphs, and open‑source systems such as Saleor and ERPNext, and integrate with third‑party solutions like Power BI and CloudSQL. This role is suited to someone passionate about delivering high‑quality, high‑performance products for a global market.

• Write clear, maintainable code that scales across projects and teams.
• Collaborate with engineers, QA, designers, and partners to solve challenging problems and deliver scalable technology worldwide.
• Refactor, review, and maintain existing code bases, ensuring scalability, performance, and security while building new features to support business growth.
• Research and implement innovative techniques and features to improve development processes.

• Python‑first developer with strong proficiency in native libraries and a genuine interest in Python best practices.
• Experience with Type Script is a strong bonus.
• Ability to translate product or business requirements into technical initiatives.
• Proficient at debugging and resolving issues autonomously.
• Comfortable writing complex SQL queries.
• Strong working knowledge of Git.
• Experience building web applications with frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, or Flask.
• Experience building GraphQL APIs with Strawberry or Ariadne;
  Strawberry federation experience is a bonus.
• Knowledge of application packaging and deployment using pip/uv, virtual environments, and pyproject.toml;
  Docker experience is ideal.

Salary Range: $80,000—$89,000 CAD (base salary; excludes bonuses and total rewards).
