Position: Front-End Developer, DX Studio - 18-Month Contract

DX Studio is a collaborative, multidisciplinary group within LDML focused on creating exceptional digital experiences that are engaging, and easy to use. By bringing together expertise across design, content and copy, and web development, we turn ideas into polished, seamless solutions that support our customers and business partners.

Why is this role important?

As a Front-End Developer (contract) in DX Studio, you will contribute to building reliable, and engaging digital experiences for Loblaw Digital’s customers and internal teams.

You will work closely with other developers, designers, product managers, and other partners throughout the software development lifecycle. You will be encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and develop a deeper understanding of the products and technologies you work with.

Reporting to the Software Engineering Manager, you will help build and improve user-facing applications using JavaScript and React. You will also contribute to testing, resilient application design, and the ongoing quality of the team’s work.

This role is well suited to someone who is curious, attentive to detail, and eager to grow their technical skills in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Build and maintain user-facing features using JavaScript and React.
  • Translate designs and product requirements into polished, responsive digital experiences.
  • Pay close attention to layout, spacing, interactions, accessibility, and overall design quality.
  • Collaborate with designers, developers, product managers, and other cross-functional partners.
  • Write and maintain automated unit and functional tests with guidance from more experienced team members.
  • Apply basic failsafe and defensive design principles to create reliable user experiences.
  • Investigate defects, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to practical solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback to improve code quality.
  • Break project goals and product requirements into clear, manageable development tasks.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and team knowledge sharing.
  • Take ownership of assigned work and deliver features with quality and on time.
  • Explore new projects, tools, and technologies with curiosity and a drive to understand how they work.
  • Communicate progress, questions, risks, and technical concepts concisely and clearly.
What You’ll Need

You are an early-career developer who is eager to learn, contribute, and grow in a collaborative engineering environment.

Required experience and skills
  • Experience with JavaScript and React.
  • Understanding of HTML, CSS, and responsive web development.
  • Understanding of accessibility standards.
  • Strong attention to detail when implementing designs.
  • Basic understanding of component-based application development.
  • Basic understanding of writing automated unit and functional tests.
  • Familiarity with failsafe, defensive, and error-handling practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and learn from feedback.
  • Experience using version control tools such as Git.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn unfamiliar projects, technologies, and business domains.
  • Clear, concise, and effective communication skills.

  • Experience working with any or all of the following:
    • Type Script

    • Contentful, or other CMS systems
