Who We Are
Bankjoy is a Y Combinator and Bessemer Venture Partner backed Fin Tech startup. We are changing the way community banks and credit unions do business, enabling them to become tech-driven and digital first. Bankjoy provides modern digital banking products including mobile banking, online banking, online account opening, loan origination, and conversational AI. Our mission is to revolutionize banking tech infrastructure by leading digital transformation at financial institutions — big and small.
The RoleWe are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to own the technical direction and execution of Bankjoy's Online Account Opening (OAO) and Online Loan Application (OLA) products, one of our most strategically important and revenue-critical product areas. This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will own the architecture, lead a high-performing engineering team, and work closely with Product, Design, QA, and financial institution clients to deliver account opening and loan origination experiences that are fast, compliant, and conversion-optimized.
You'll be embedded in a fast-moving fintech environment where your decisions directly impact client go-lives and member acquisition for credit unions and community banks. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in digital account opening, loan origination, or financial onboarding technology, with strong proficiency in .NET Core and Angular, and the technical leadership skills to drive a team and build alongside them.
You'll Do Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Own the technical direction and architecture for Bankjoy's OAO and OLA products, designing systems that are scalable, secure, compliant, and optimized for financial institution workflows
- Lead solution design and quarterly planning, guiding architectural and technology decisions in alignment with product and business goals
- Ensure all systems meet financial industry standards including KYC/AML compliance, identity verification, regulatory requirements, and data privacy
- Provide technical guidance and code reviews to maintain engineering best practices across the team
- Architect integrations with core banking systems (Corelation, Jack Henry Symitar, Fiserv Portico, CU Answers) and third-party vendors (identity verification, fraud detection, e-signature providers)
- Break down initiatives into milestones and deliverables, managing scope, dependencies, risks, and technical debt
- Monitor delivery progress and communicate risks or blockers proactively to ensure timely, high-quality client go-lives
- Balance delivering business value with maintaining long-term system health, avoiding over-engineering while building for scale
- Contribute directly to coding, testing, debugging, and development; this is not a purely managerial role
- Build and maintain backend services using C#, .NET Core, Entity Framework, and SQL Server
- Develop frontend components using Type Script and Angular
- Build and maintain integrations with core banking systems, identity verification providers, and other third-party APIs
- Lead and mentor engineers through regular 1:1s, performance feedback, and hands-on coaching
- Foster a collaborative, high-trust team culture that emphasizes quality, ownership, and continuous improvement
- Hire and onboard engineering talent as the account acquisition team grows
- Partner closely with Product to shape the OAO/OLA roadmap, define feature scope, and deliver accurate technical estimates
- Work with Implementation and Client Success teams to understand client go-live needs and ensure technical solutions support smooth onboarding
- Collaborate with QA to define testing standards, quality gates, UAT readiness, and release criteria
- Surface implementation-blocking issues and feed client learnings back into the product and engineering roadmap
- Oversee unit test coverage, integration testing, and CI/CD pipeline quality
- Establish monitoring, alerting, and observability practices to ensure production reliability for client-facing account opening flows
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond to production incidents with clear RCA and retrospective processes
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership or lead engineer role
- Domain experience in digital account opening, loan origination, financial onboarding, or banking technology; candidates without this background will not be considered
- Strong proficiency in C#, .NET Core, Entity Framework, and SQL Server; this is the core backend stack
- Strong proficiency in Angular and Type Script: required frontend skill, not optional
- Proven experience building and integrating with core banking systems or third-party financial APIs (identity verification, KYC/AML, e-signature, fraud detection)
- Proven ability to architect scalable, secure, and compliant systems in a regulated financial environment
- Experience leading engineering teams:…
