We are looking for a Backend Engineer
- Python (API & Platform Engineering) to join our engineering team in Toronto, Ontario. This is a hands-on backend engineering role focused on building scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems for enterprise-grade financial platforms.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Python, RESTful APIs, system design, platform engineering, databases, and cloud technologies, along with experience building distributed and highly scalable backend systems.

This is an onsite role in Toronto, and an in-person interview in Toronto is mandatory.

The Backend Engineer
- Python (API & Platform Engineering) will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend services and APIs. The role involves contributing to platform engineering, distributed system design, backend integrations, performance optimization, security, and observability.

You will work closely with frontend, Dev Ops, product, and engineering teams to deliver reliable and scalable solutions supporting mission-critical financial platforms.

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Python.
• Build and manage RESTful APIs and backend integrations using REST, JSON, and OpenAPI.
• Contribute to platform engineering initiatives focused on reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
• Participate in system design and architecture discussions for distributed and high-performance systems.
• Design and implement backend solutions with a focus on scalability, fault tolerance, performance, and security.
• Collaborate with frontend, Dev Ops, product, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.

• Optimize backend services for performance, security, reliability, and observability.
• Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices and coding standards.

• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and contribute to continuous improvement of backend systems.

• 5-10+ years of backend-focused software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python for backend development.
• Proven experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
• Strong understanding of REST, JSON, and OpenAPI.
• Solid experience with system design, including scalability, fault tolerance, performance, and distributed systems.
• Experience with platform engineering or building shared backend platforms.

• Experience working with at least one major cloud platform, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and Dev Ops practices.
