Position Overview
The Shipping & Receiving Clerk acts as the main point of contact for all incoming and outgoing drivers at the Welcome Center or Shipping and Receiving Office. This role is responsible for verifying and processing shipments, maintaining schedules, coordinating yard and dock activities, and ensuring all shipping and receiving documentation is accurate and complete. The Clerk provides critical support to logistics operations by facilitating communication, delivering excellent customer service, and upholding inventory and process integrity.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
Shipping & Receiving Operations
Greet and sign drivers in and out of the facility, ensuring all paperwork is verified and completed.
Assign dock doors to inbound and outbound loads, coordinating closely with yard spotters and warehouse teams.
Process Bills of Lading and all associated shipping and receiving documentation, maintaining accurate records.
Maintain real-time door and yard reports for trailer inventory.
Scheduling & Coordination
Maintain and update inbound and outbound shipment schedules using warehouse management systems.
Coordinate yard movements and dock assignments with the spotter/yard jockey to optimize operational flow.
Reconcile inbound shipments with packing slips and coordinate drop lot activity.
Customer Service & Communication
Provide responsive, high-quality customer service to both internal and external customers.
Communicate shipment issues or scheduling changes promptly to management, drivers, and warehouse teams.
Report errors or issues to appropriate leadership to ensure process accuracy and compliance.
Compliance & Continuous Improvement
Participate in all required training programs to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
Perform all duties in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
Maintain a clean, organized workspace and follow all safety protocols.
Perform other related job duties as assigned or required.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent – or equivalent relevant experience.
1-2 years relevant experience.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Basic math, reading, and record-keeping skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Effective problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous shipping and receiving experience in a warehouse or logistics environment.
Previous experience with AS400 and/or warehouse management systems (WMS).
Familiarity with dock and yard management processes.
Familiarity with electronic record-keeping and label printing systems.
Experience collaborating with procurement or inventory teams.
Physical Requirements
This is largely a sedentary role requiring the physical ability to:
Sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk while working on a computer
Use hands and fingers to operate a keyboard, mouse, and telephone
Speak and hear clearly in person, virtually, and over the phone
Occasionally stand, walk, reach, stoop, or lift up to 10 pounds
Work Environment
This position operates in a hybrid environment, with responsibilities carried out in both a warehouse setting and an office environment. In the warehouse, the employee is exposed to:
Varying temperatures, including but not limited to refrigerated or non-climate-controlled areas
Loud noise levels, such as machinery, forklifts, and conveyor systems
Dust, odors, and airborne particles
Concrete flooring and moving mechanical equipment
Frequent exposure to powered industrial vehicles and warehouse traffic
The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, and high-visibility vests.
In the office environment, the employee will use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and printers. The noise level in the office is typically quiet to moderate, and the area is climate-controlled.

Schedule
Work hours may vary by shift assignment and may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime based on business needs.
