Overview
This role focuses on underwriting commercial auto and transportation risks within the casualty department. You will drive profitable results for the national commercial auto portfolio while interacting with internal teams and external brokerages.
Responsibilities- Lead, coach, and develop a team of auto and transportation underwriters.
- Build and maintain broker and producer relationships and manage respective portfolios.
- Collaborate closely with distribution, claims, actuarial, and other stakeholders to support profitable growth and position AIG as a market leader.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory changes and underwriting guidelines, and implement them within division protocols.
- Oversee underwriting of Canadian Auto policies, including Owned Auto, Non‑Owned Auto, Garage, Lessor’s Contingent, and CGL.
- Monitor service level agreements for premium processing, policy issuance, file maintenance, and governance.
- Produce profitable new and renewal business, and participate in special underwriting projects as needed.
- 10+ years of casualty and auto underwriting experience, specifically Commercial Auto and Transportation risks.
- Strong leadership experience with team management, coaching, and mentoring.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, customer‑service, and negotiation skills.
- Strong decision‑making skills, self‑starter, organized, motivated, and focused on results.
- Knowledge of the transportation industry and litigation trends in Canada and the USA.
- Ability to deliver difficult messages while influencing positive outcomes.
The base salary range for this position is CAD $122,800‑$153,500 and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the incentive plan. AIG offers a comprehensive benefits package; details are available at the CA Benefits Overview.
