SEN Teaching Assistant - Alternative Provision (Plymouth)

Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (Special Educational Needs)

Location: Plymouth, Devon

Working Hours: 08:30 - 15:30, Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)

Salary: Competitive daily rate (Based on experience)

Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or Support Worker looking for a rewarding new challenge in Plymouth?

We are currently recruiting dedicated SEN TAs to join a multi-site Alternative Provision in Plymouth. This specialised environment supports vulnerable young people who have faced barriers to mainstream education. With both Primary and Secondary sites, we have the flexibility to match you with the age group that best fits your skill set.

Key Responsibilities as an SEN TA:
  • 1:1 & Group Support: Deliver tailored academic and emotional support to pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs, ASD, ADHD, and trauma.

  • Behaviour Management: Utilise positive de-escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviour and encourage emotional regulation.

  • Engagement: Assist class teachers in creating an inclusive, high-engagement learning environment that boosts student confidence.

  • Progress Tracking: Work alongside the school's multidisciplinary team to monitor and record pupil development and milestones.

Requirements & Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following:

  • Experience: Proven experience working with children or young adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN), SEMH, or challenging behaviours. (Experience in youth work, residential care, or sports coaching is also highly valued).

  • Key

    Skills:

    High emotional intelligence, resilience, patience, and the ability to build trust quickly.

  • Availability: Ability to commit to consistent school hours (8:30 AM - 3:30 PM).

  • Vetting: Must hold an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to process a new one through Randstad.
