Residential / Building Surveyor | South Devon | McCluskey Chartered Surveyors
Hello
Does your work make you happy and genuinely give you the life you want?
Would you consider a conversation about a different way of working?
If so, we'd love to chat.
We're Aaron & Emma, and we started McCluskey Chartered Surveyors in 2018 after a poor experience buying our own home. Fast forward eight years and we're now a small team of five. Personality matters here as much as the letters after your name. Being a small team means that we actually know you, and you us, with work that allows life to happen rather than the other way around.

We're looking for an experienced RICS Residential or Building Surveyor based in or around South Devon. Our patch runs across parts of Devon, Somerset and Dorset, primarily between Plymouth and Yeovil. Torbay and the surrounding area is where we need support most.
You'll be carrying out RICS Level 2 and Level 3 Home Surveys. Level 2 is the core of the role, but if you're confident with Level 3s, that genuinely changes the conversation. No Red Book valuations required. You will need a full UK driving licence, right to work in the UK, and be comfortable with a DBS check.
What working here actually looks likeOne survey a day. Four a week. Enough time to do the job properly. You'll have office support handling bookings and admin.
You manage your own diary. If you need to drop the kids at school, you drop them. If you train BJJ at midday on a Friday (as Aaron does), train. As long as the work gets done and the client is looked after, how you structure your day is up to you.
One of our surveyors finishes a coastal inspection and grabs an ice cream on the seafront before the drive home. That's not a perk we invented, it’s a small luxury in our corner of the world.
The kit:- Protimeter MMS3
- drone
- borescope
- crack gauge callipers
- iPhone
- iPad
- Mac Book
- 20 days annual leave, bank holidays, your birthday off.
- Full-time or part-time considered.
- Real CPD support, and a PDP led by you.
- Competitive and experience-dependent IRO £35,000 - £50,000. We'd rather have an honest conversation than lose the right person over a number on a page.
We're a small firm. We can't offer a company car, private health cover or a corporate retreat. What we can offer is work that allows life to happen. Our offices are in a heritage building with a thatched pub on the estate that gets used for birthdays and celebrations. The property stock here - Jacobean, cob, Victorian, new build - will keep you interested for a long time.
We're building something. We'd like the right people building it with us.
