Join Our Obstetrics & Gynaecology Team. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a dedicated team that values clinical excellence and an inclusive working environment.
The role will involve obstetric duties, regular gynaecology outpatient clinics and theatre sessions. You will work within a group of 12 consultants sharing responsibility for in‑patients and out‑patients.
The department offers a wide range of general and specialist services, including:
- Urogynaecology
- Gynaecological oncology
- Early pregnancy assessment
- Colposcopy
- Specialist antenatal clinics
- Consultant‑led obstetrics and intrapartum care

Main duties of the job- Deliver high‑quality, consultant‑led care to patients, with a focus on safety, timeliness and effectiveness.
- Provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior medical staff, ensuring robust support and the highest standards of patient care.
- Actively engage in rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision‑making processes to support safe and efficient patient journeys.
- Participate in the teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff, including direct supervision of junior and specialty doctors.
- Contribute to the department’s clinical governance agenda, supporting continuous learning and quality improvement through leadership roles.
- Adhere to and promote the Trust’s clinical and corporate governance policies.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to address service‑related issues and support ongoing service development.
- Audit own clinical outcomes and report incidents promptly in line with Trust policies.
- Participate in annual appraisals and foster positive team relationships.
- Plan personal development and continuing medical education to maintain clinical skills and meet revalidation requirements.
- Teach and supervise doctors, students and non‑medical healthcare professionals in line with the Trust’s expectations.
The Obstetrics & Gynaecology team is supported by a dedicated group of midwives, nurses and Resident Doctors. The unit includes a dedicated theatre within the labour ward, facilities for water births and three ultrasound rooms. The antenatal clinic and Day Assessment Unit support comprehensive care. The Obstetric ward features a transitional care Baby Unit. The Women’s Health Unit houses a fully equipped Gynaecology Clinic.
A separate, fully functional Urodynamic Unit provides specialised investigations and care. The department also runs an in‑house Termination of Pregnancy Service, Early Pregnancy Service and Fertility Clinic.
The Day Surgery Unit is nationally recognised for its innovation and leadership in enhanced recovery practices. As a leading site in the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) initiative, we deliver a high proportion of major gynaecological operations as day‑case procedures.
Person Specification Qualifications- Full GMC Registration (with licence to practice).
- CCT Specialist Registration or will obtain within 6 months of interview date.
- CESR.
- Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent), IELTS or graduate of a UK Medical School.
- Relevant CCT or equivalent (confirmation required by PMETB/GMC).
- Entry onto GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee.
- Distinctions, scholarships, prizes.
- Other degrees, e.g. BSc, MSc, MD.
- At least three years in Higher Training in relevant specialty.
- Further Higher Degree.
- Advanced Labour Ward Practice ATSM or equivalent.
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
- Ability to prioritise clinical need.
- Ability to supervise multi‑disciplinary teams.
