Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children and young people with additional needs? We’re recruiting a Special Needs Teaching Assistant to support a specialist school in Torquay.
This role offers a fulfilling opportunity to work closely with pupils who have a range of special educational needs, helping them to access learning, develop skills and thrive in a safe, supportive environment.
Location:
Torquay (specialist setting supporting pupils with SEN)

Hours:
8:55am – 3:25pm, Monday to Friday (term-time)
Pay: £80 – £90 per day (based on experience) – 6 hours per day (30 min unpaid lunch)

About the Role
As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant you will:
Support pupils’ learning:
Assist classroom teachers by helping pupils access lessons, participate in activities, and work towards their individual goals.
Adapt and deliver support:
Help adapt learning materials and approaches to meet pupils’ varied needs, ensuring they can engage effectively.
Promote social, emotional and behavioural development:
Support positive behaviour, emotional regulation and social interaction throughout the school day.
Work one-to-one or in small groups:
Provide focused support where required, including potentially supporting pupils with complex needs.
Collaborate with school staff:
Work alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals to implement strategies and contribute to pupils’ Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Record and reflect:
Monitor pupil progress and contribute observations for planning future support and development.
Who We’re Looking For

Enjoy working with children and young people with diverse needs
Have strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships
Can stay calm and supportive in challenging situations
Have some experience with SEN settings (beneficial but not essential)
Training and ongoing support will be provided—this is a great role for anyone eager to grow their skills in special education.
