Luma Education Recruitment is recruiting for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join an established and supportive specialist school in Totnes, Devon.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to build valuable experience working with children and young people, particularly those interested in developing a career within SEN, SEND, SEMH, education, psychology, youth work or specialist support
.

The role is long-term, with potential for the right candidate to progress into a permanent position through a temp-to-perm arrangement.

You will be part of an experienced school team, supporting young people with their learning, development, confidence and independence. The role also includes an outreach and community element
, making it particularly varied and rewarding.

Alongside supporting learning within the school, you may accompany young people on activities, days out, visits to local facilities or trips into the community, helping them develop practical skills and greater independence.

The role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will provide positive, consistent and individualised support to young people with a range of additional needs.

  • Supporting young people with learning and educational activities
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support
  • Supporting pupils with SEN, SEND and SEMH needs
  • Building positive and trusting relationships
  • Supporting confidence, communication and emotional development
  • Encouraging independence and practical life skills
  • Supporting young people within the wider community
  • Accompanying pupils on activities, trips and days out
  • Supporting visits to shops, local facilities and community settings
  • Encouraging young people to try new experiences
  • Helping pupils develop confidence in everyday situations
  • Working alongside teachers and experienced education professionals
  • Providing patient, consistent and encouraging support throughout the day

The outreach element makes this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied role and wants to gain experience both inside and outside the classroom

Whether you have recently completed a degree in Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies, Youth Work or a related subject
