As a Healthcare Chaplain your primary responsibility will be ensuring individuals are met with the utmost compassion and understanding.
In this patient facing role, you will need to be an authorised minister of one of the members of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland or an authorised minister in your own faith community or be registered with The UK Board of Healthcare Chaplains. You will need to participate in our out of hours service on an on call basis. You will need to have an inclusive outlook, respecting all faith and belief traditions.
Mainduties of the job
Your main responsibility will be to provide pastoral and spiritual care to patients, families, visitors, staff and students within our hospitals.
You will work collaboratively within the Chaplaincy Team, contributing to appropriate religious rites and worship in the hospital setting. You will be able to respond effectively to people's needs at challenging and distressing moments, including care at the end of life.

Job responsibilitiesYou will
- Be available to people of all faiths or no faith
- Offer sensitive pastoral care to patients, their families and carers
- Ensure that patients at the end of their life receive the care and support that is right for them
- Offer sensitive support to those in bereavement, including pregnancy loss
- Provide spiritual and religious care to those who require it
- Offer sensitive pastoral care to Trust staff
- Participate in the Departments 24 hour on-call rota on a weekly basis.
- Participate in the Trusts response in the event of a Major Incident
- Be prepared to attend multidisciplinary team meetings and liaise with other healthcare professionals as appropriate.
- Support volunteers working with the Chaplaincy Team, as appropriate, and as part of the Chaplaincy Team
- Contribute, as agreed with the Co-ordinating Chaplain, to ongoing programmes of education and awareness for Trust staff, particularly in areas relating to spirituality, faith, and belief.
- Conduct, as part of the Chaplaincy Team, funerals on behalf of the Trust
- Ordained/authorised minister of member church of CTBI or registered chaplain with UKBHC
- Degree or equivalent occupational qualification
- Degree in relevant subject e.g. Theology or Religious Studies
- Minimum 2 years experience in pastoral care
- Experience of multi faith working
- Experience in bereavement support
- Ability to assess and meet spiritual needs of clients
- Ability to work within a team
- Effective time management
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of different faiths and cultures
- Teaching or presentation skills
- Ability to recognise and manage personal stress
- Ability to meet on call requirements
