Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced, compassionate and qualified person to provide high‑quality, recovery‑focused support to clients with a range of mental health needs, learning disabilities, physical health issues and substance misuse, whilst promoting independence and social inclusion. We work in close partnership with other professionals, so we require good communication skills and advocacy for the people we support.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver emotional support, advice and guidance via face‑to‑face, telephone and video.
- Assess situations to determine risk and needs.
- Make decisions under pressure while communicating with clients.
- Accurately record new contacts and details of visits and calls on relevant electronic systems.
- Work in line with performance targets and contractual requirements, providing data and case studies as requested.
- Advise and be actively involved in individual risk assessment and review.
- Implement appropriate action/safety plans when identified.
- Encourage clients to recognise, understand and manage factors affecting mental wellbeing and physical health.
- Collaborate with partners, stakeholders and external agencies to meet needs and support delivery.
- Work as a team member, sharing information and supporting colleagues.
- Obtain relevant literature/resource materials from internal teams and external agencies.
- Partake in training and mentoring for new staff.
- Attend all relevant meetings and supervision sessions.
- Work as part of a team and on own initiative where required.
- Improve own and team performance.
- Identify personal training and development needs.
- Involve people and informal support networks in planning, delivery and review.
- Carry out duties on a rota system to meet service requirements (open 365 days a year).
- Promote a positive image of Mental Health Matters and mental health issues.
- Engage with community events and local organisations.
- Promote the service and MHM.
- Contribute to continuous improvement with positive suggestions.
- Other duties as relevant.
Hours:
Up to 24 hours per week or bank roles. Salary: £16,613.40 – £18,344 per annum (£25,958.40 – £28,662.40 FTE).
Location:
South Devon & Torbay Mental Health Centre, Torbay Hospital, Lowes Bridge, TQ2 7A.

Person Specification Qualifications- Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care or equivalent, willing to complete an appropriate Level 3 qualification within 12 months of employment.
- Awareness of/lived experience with people with mental health issues.
- Experience of record keeping.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A DBS check is required.
