Role Overview

Responsibilities

With experience from the NHS or private care, you will lead the nursing team to provide high-quality care and support to people within a mental health setting. You will support your colleagues, promote good teamwork, and empower recovery. Your day‑to‑day duties include:

  • Providing clinical leadership and expertise.
  • Guiding the nursing team to deliver a unified service and engaged workforce.
  • Ensuring high standards are in place and continually improved within the Clinical Governance framework.
  • Utilising and supervising all nursing staff effectively.
  • Acting as an expert resource on nursing care of service users within the specialism and holding a key role in the multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintaining a positive and collaborative environment that enables ward members to reach their potential and maximise their ability to provide high‑quality care, staff welfare, and staff training.
  • Managing the on‑call service and ward budgets.
  • Leading by example, acting as a role model to all members of the nursing team, and creating a learning environment that changes lives for the better.
Qualifications

A ward manager must hold a relevant nursing qualification and be a registered nurse with the NMC. You should possess a positive attitude, be naturally caring and compassionate, and be committed to high‑quality care based on values and evidence‑based practice.

Experience & Experience Requirements

  • Relevant experience in a similar environment.
  • Proven track record of leadership skills.

Location

You will be working at Wellesley Hospital, a purpose‑built 101‑bed hospital in Wellington (Somerset) for men and women with mental health needs. The hospital offers 6 wards for people with mental health needs and 1 ward for people with Learning Disabilities and Autism. It works alongside Devon Partnership NHS Trust, Avon and Wiltshire Foundation Trust, Cornwall Foundation Trust, 2gether Foundation Trust, and Livewell to deliver the best possible environment for patients with mental health issues.
