ICU Senior Nurse

As a Senior ICU Nurse you will provide professional nursing/midwifery leadership and accountability for a critical care services and pain nursing services ensuring responsiveness to the changing needs of the service and nursing/multidisciplinary team.,

• Maintaining and developing systems ensuring a multi-disciplinary approach to patient-centred care delivery, which builds on the philosophy of greater involvement of patients and their relatives/carers.
• To provide professional nursing/midwifery leadership and accountability for Intensive Care Service, including Critical Care Outreach/Hospital @ Night and the Nursing Pain Service ensuring responsiveness to the changing needs of the service and the impact on the nursing/ multidisciplinary team.
• With the Critical Care leadership team, lead in the strategic development of Critical Care and Pain Nursing Services, in line with Directorate, Trust and national directives and priorities specifically the current guidelines for the provision of intensive care services.
• To maintain and develop effective governance arrangements whilst ensuring that patient care is always of the highest possible standard with particular emphasis on dignity and compassion. Working closely with the medical governance lead for critical care and the governance team to ensure a effective and safe service delivery.
• Be responsible for the professional development and management of the nursing/multidisciplinary team within the critical care and pain nursing services including line management of the pains nurse's specialist lead nurse, therapies lead, and the band 7 nurses employed by the critical care services.
  Torbay Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a purpose‑built unit that is well equipped and staffed by highly knowledgeable, highly skilled, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals, led by a cohesive leadership team. The unit's quality metrics are of a high standard when benchmarked nationally, with an enviable breadth of services provided, and a state‑of‑the‑art unit. Taken together, the unit outperforms other units in the SWCCODN when the package of service provision, quality of care, the estate and compliance with national guidance and service specification are considered.
  
  The unit is considered to be the 'Best in the West'.

The team have plans to expand into the 14 bedded critical care unit footprint. The nurse led critical care outreach service includes hospital at night nursing team. The post holder also provides nursing leadership to the pain nursing team which includes both the chronic and acute services working across the organisation.
