The City of Torrance General Services Department provides essential internal support services that enable all City departments to operate efficiently and effectively. The department oversees a wide range of functions, including fleet maintenance, building maintenance, reprographics, mail services, and other logistical operations. Its mission is to deliver high‑quality, cost‑effective services that support City programs and ensure reliable resources for employees and the community.
PositionUnder general supervision, operates high‑speed digital reprographic, inkjet, and duplicating equipment. Operates a variety of equipment used to bind, hole‑punch, staple, cut, or laminate reproduced/printed materials per request in the centralized reprographic section/unit of the City. Performs routine cleaning and/or maintenance on all equipment used and performs related work as required.
Essential Duties- Operate reprographic and large‑format printing equipment to reproduce documents, posters, banners, and other media from hardcopy or digital files.
- Perform finishing and bindery tasks such as collating, folding, punching, stapling, cutting, and preparing materials for mailing.
- Scan documents, maintain digital archives, and update electronic job tickets.
- Restock paper and supplies; log and distribute incoming shipments; assist staff with supply requests.
- Operate material handling equipment (pallet jack, forklift) for inventory and paper stock management.
- Monitor, clean, and perform basic maintenance on equipment; order parts and coordinate major repairs.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure proper care, safety, and organization of work areas.
- Utilize digital media applications to support printing and finishing tasks.
Any combination of education and experience that would have provided the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
One year of experience with digital printing equipment and commercial bindery equipment. Knowledge of stockroom and inventory procedures preferred.
License or CertificatePossess and maintain a valid Class C California driver license. Obtain and maintain forklift certification within 6 months of hire.
Ideal Candidate- Skilled in operating high‑speed digital reprographic and printing equipment, with ability to perform routine maintenance.
- Understands paper stock, inks, toners, and basic computer operations; able to learn specialized applications and stockroom procedures.
- Follows written and oral instructions accurately, meets specifications, and applies basic math for measurements and calculations.
- Demonstrates good judgment, confidentiality, adaptability under pressure, and reliability in meeting deadlines.
- Willing to learn and operate material handling equipment (forklift, pallet jack) and continuously improve skills.
- Builds effective working relationships and maintains professionalism in all interactions.

Special RequirementsPerformance of the essential duties of this position includes the following physical demands and/or working conditions:
Work is regularly performed indoors in a print shop, mail room environment. Work is performed among large printing machines. Constant exposure to noise, vibrations, odors, chemicals, and ink. Physical demands include lifting, carrying and standing for long periods of time. Lifting of stationary boxes and printed materials weighing up to 55 lbs is required. Positions in this classification may be required to work overtime to ensure that deadlines are met to produce documents such as City Council Agenda, City Budget or other documents for special events.
