Part-Time Faculty - Fire & Emergency Technology

PART TIME FACULTY – FIRE & EMERGENCY TECHNOLOGY

El Camino Community College District is accepting applications for part‑time faculty positions for the 2026 spring semester to teach Fire and Emergency Technology courses.

• Instruct instructional courses in Fire and Emergency Technology during weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays as assigned.
• Develop and deliver quality online or hybrid courses for dual enrollment, distance education, or hybrid assignments as required.
• Engage in initiatives supporting students and partner with employers, advisory committees, industry/trade groups, universities, high schools, and other partnerships.

• Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years full‑time or full‑time equivalent experience in the discipline; OR
• Associate’s degree and six (6) years full‑time or full‑time equivalent experience in the discipline; OR
• Valid California community college instructor credential in appropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355); AND
• Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socio‑economic, academic, and cultural diversity within student populations, including students with disabilities, as these factors relate to the need for equity‑minded practices.

• Completion of California Office of State Fire Marshall CFSTES/FSTEP instructor certification.
• Experience as a sworn fire department employee with more than ten (10) years of experience.
• Community college teaching experience.
• Demonstrated ability to cultivate partnership with related program industry members and advisory committees.
• Demonstrated ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods.
• Ability to engage student interest to support a variety of learning styles.
• Ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in a team environment as a member of an instructional team.
• Ability to utilize technology in and outside of the classroom, including online/hybrid teaching experience.
• Fire service/public safety training center instruction experience teaching FSTEP, CFSTES, NWCG and/or IFSAC courses.

• Valid California Driver’s license.

Part‑time faculty are compensated on a semester basis. The beginning rate is $107.38 – $137.08 per lecture hour and $81.39 – $103.67 per lab hour, based on PT salary schedule, depending on education and experience.

Applicants must agree to fingerprinting, submit a certificate of completion of the Tuberculosis Risk Assessment and/or Examination, provide proof of eligibility for employment in the United States, and present a valid Social Security Card upon hire.
