Overview
The El Camino Community College District is now accepting applications for the part‑time position of Women’s Flag Football Assistant Coach and Kinesiology instructor.
Responsibilities- Assist in coordinating all aspects of practice and competition in the South Coast Conference, including recruitment of high‑school athletes under the rules and regulations of the 3C2A.
- Advise and support student‑athletes in meeting academic goals and preparing for transfer to four‑year institutions.
- Contribute to coordinating off‑season training activities as directed by the Head Coach.
- Provide support in monitoring team budgets, assist with equipment purchases, and help organize fundraising, marketing, and promotional efforts within the program.
- Deliver instruction, mentoring, and coaching to student‑athletes in skills, techniques, and competitive strategies for individual and team development.
- Assist the head coach in planning and scheduling competitions, tournaments, and events in collaboration with coaches within and outside of the conference and in concert with academic schedules and district policies.
- Maintain safety standards to protect student‑athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities; demonstrate techniques that prevent injuries; provide immediate assistance to injured athletes; document injuries and submit required reports.
- Create a positive atmosphere for the student‑athletes; support academic progress, retention, and matriculation through mentoring activities; refer students to support services and resources; maintain confidential student‑athlete information.
- Assist in the recruiting process in compliance with 3C2A regulations; identify and attract promising student‑athletes; maintain contact with prospective recruits and provide prompt follow‑up.
- Monitor the team budget and manage expenses to keep expenditures within approved funding levels; recommend equipment, supplies, and uniforms; collaborate with equipment personnel to maintain accurate inventory records.
- Ensure the program complies with 3C2A regulations by following established procedures for staff and athlete compliance; monitor adherence; communicate guidelines; promptly report potential violations to the Head Coach and Athletic Director or Dean.
- Promote interest and attendance at athletic events; assist in fundraising efforts for the program.
May include morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend hours. Dual enrollment, distance education, online or hybrid teaching are voluntary. Completion of El Camino College’s distance education certification process is required for those interested in online or hybrid courses.
Desired Qualifications- Demonstrated successful university, community college or high school coaching experience.
- Recent Flag Football Coaching Experience, preferably at the high school or collegiate level.
- Valid California Driver’s license.
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercises, or adaptive physical education; OR
- Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical therapy; OR
- Equivalent qualifications—candidates not possessing the required qualification(s) must submit a Request For Equivalency Form explaining how their qualifications are equivalent; OR
- Valid California community college instructor credential in appropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355); AND
- Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socio‑economic, academic, and cultural diversity within student populations, including students with disabilities, as these factors relate to equity‑minded practices.
