At Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, we believe children's ministry belongs to the whole church. We are looking for a Children's Ministry Coordinator who loves Jesus, loves children and families, and has a passion for equipping others to serve.
Our vision is to build a Christ-centered ministry from nursery through fifth grade where children are faithfully taught God's Word, families are supported and volunteers are equipped to lead.
This position is about more than running a Sunday program. We are looking for someone who can build a ministry through people.
Your responsibilitiesLead and coordinate Sunday children's ministry, including nursery, classroom readiness, volunteer scheduling and curriculum preparation.
Recruit, train, encourage and develop volunteer leaders, building a sustainable ministry that does not depend on one person.
Work alongside pastoral leadership to ensure biblically faithful, Christ-centered teaching consistent with our Lutheran commitments.
Maintain child-safety procedures, including volunteer screening, training and secure check-in and release.
Build relationships with parents and equip families to nurture their children's faith at home.
Develop lay leadership teams for Sunday operations, curriculum and resources, family and worship, and events.
Lead Vacation Bible School in collaboration with church staff and volunteer teams.
Strengthen connections between our congregation, preschool and surrounding community.
We are looking for a spiritually mature Christian who affirms and supports LCGS's biblical and theological commitments and demonstrates strong organizational and relational leadership.
Previous experience in children's ministry, Christian education, volunteer leadership or a related field is strongly preferred. Formal theological education is beneficial but not required.
Candidates should be able to recruit and develop leaders, communicate effectively with families and staff, exercise sound judgment and maintain appropriate child-safety standards.
ScheduleThis is a part-time position averaging 25 hours per week. Regular responsibilities include Sunday mornings, weekly staff meetings, volunteer communication, lesson and ministry preparation, and other administrative and leadership responsibilities.
Vacation Bible School and major events may require adjusted schedules or additional paid hours. Some weeks may require up to approximately 35 hours, depending on ministry needs.
Compensation and benefits $26–$30 per hourCompensation depends on qualifications and relevant experience.

The selected candidate will report to the Executive Pastor and work closely with the Lead Pastor, church staff and congregational leaders. Employment is contingent upon applicable background screening and child-safety requirements.
