Job Summary
Moog Military Aircraft Group is looking for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to support our Manufacturing Engineering Group at our plant in Torrance, CA. The role reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and is based onsite with a 9/80 schedule.
Key Responsibilities- New Product Introduction (NPI): perform drawing reviews, develop quality‑based and cost‑effective manufacturing processes, design tooling for all operations, analyze and troubleshoot manufacturing processes to achieve targeted yield and efficiency.
- Legacy Programs and Production Environment: support continuous improvement in the machine shop, review existing manufacturing plans, recommend improvements and drawing updates, implement automation and Industry 4.0 technologies.
- Research, specify and purchase capital equipment to increase capacity or technology.
- Coordinate with departments to optimize design and use of manufacturing facilities and processes.
- Provide technical ownership of gear production equipment (hobbers, shapers) including programming, troubleshooting, fixture and cutting tool specifications.
- Perform root‑cause analysis, corrective action and quality processes such as 5 Whys and Fishbone diagrams.
- Bachelor of Science in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 7 years progressive experience in manufacturing engineering for aerospace components; minimum 10 years for applicants without a bachelor’s degree.
- Experience with aerospace cylindrical steel components; knowledge of machining processes: turning, milling, OD/, surface, jig grinding, shaping, hobbing, broaching, gear grinding.
- Knowledge of aerospace steel properties, heat treatment, plating, NDT, aerospace painting and GDT.
- Proficiency in 3‑D modeling, engineering drawings, fixture and tool design, inspection methods.
- Strong verbal and written communication, team player, organizational skills.
- Optional: experience with NX & Team Center; experience creating manufacturing processes for aerospace cylindrical components with gears or splines; knowledge of gear/spline inspection; CMM (Zeiss) inspection; AS9100 requirements; time‑management skills.
- Salary: $110,000–$150,000 annually (Torrance, CA).
