SUMMARYThe Regional Laboratory Manager provides active P&L leadership for multiple laboratories. The individual in this role provides strong leadership, a strategic mindset, and solid business acumen to drive performance KPI initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Exhibit exemplary ethics and champion these ethics.
- Shared accountability for achieving the profit and loss targets of the region.
- Accountable for performance KPIs in the region, including turnaround time, retest optimization, certificate of analysis revision, PTP, SQC, and other assigned KPIs.
- Responsible for assigned laboratory cost optimization, including consumables, repair and maintenance, and external subcontracting.
- Responsible for laboratory personnel decisions across the region: recruitment, retention, training, and professional development.
- Promote and drive development and optimization of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to improve quality, service, customer engagement, and laboratory process management.
- Support client marketing and development and assist with identification and development of new business opportunities within the region and across North America.
- Act as a liaison with the Technical Services group to reduce instrument downtime, including hands‑on instrument maintenance, repair, and calibration.
- Act as a liaison with the Quality and EHS team to optimize performance, including hands‑on quality and safety tasks.
- Key escalation point of contact for quality and operational issues that cannot be handled at the local level.
- Ensure all laboratories have adequate resources to safely perform all aspects of work.
- Maintain corporate policy and procedure adherence at the regional level.
- Champion employee motivation.
- Disseminate corporate level information and direction to all assigned laboratories.
- Review local operations for continuous improvement opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with Sales/BD, Key Account Managers, and Inspection Operations to continuously improve customer partnerships.
- Handle all disciplinary matters fairly and consistently and maintain open communication with Human Resources.
- Represent Bureau Veritas by appearance and conduct.
- Ensure business practices meet or exceed company policy and industry standards.
- Execute all above duties and responsibilities and any other assigned duties, exercising good judgment, common sense, and diplomacy.
- Knowledgeable of ISO 17025 and ISO 9001.
- Travel required, estimated at 25‑75%.
Laboratory Managers in the assigned region report directly to the Regional Laboratory Manager. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining, and addressing complaints and resolving problems. Education and Experience- BA/BS in a scientific discipline, business, economics, or related field.
- 5+ years' experience in a leadership role in a laboratory and/or quality management environment.
- Experience with P&L responsibilities (as an individual or part of a team) is a plus.
