Maintenance/Electrical Mechanic

Position is within our Prestone division located at Prestone Plant, Torrance, California. This is an on‑site, Monday‑through‑Friday role that may require additional weekend work and overtime.

Job Overview

The role focuses on troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing manufacturing equipment, electrical systems, and machinery. It involves machine checks, preventive maintenance, equipment installation, and collaboration with production and engineering to minimize disruptions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and replace faulty machine components such as motors, pumps, drives, PLC controls, programming, commissioning, gearboxes, tooling equipment, Blow Mold equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, AC and DC drives.
  • Read and understand electrical schematic diagrams and industrial 240 V/480 V power distribution, including VFD wiring practices.
  • Perform general electrical work: layout, assembling, installing, testing apparatus, measuring, cutting, threading, bending conduit, and installing/modifying/repairing panels, remote control equipment, motors, power and lighting circuits.
  • Execute daily machine checks, lubrication, start‑up, clean‑up, change‑overs and adjustments to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Install and set up new machinery and production lines.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and provide innovative solutions for equipment breakdowns, applying skills in mechanics, fitting, plumbing, basic welding, metal fabrication, machining, and analytical problem solving.
  • Utilize CMMS for preventive maintenance tasks, work orders, and logging reactive work orders.
  • Inspect tanks for corrosion, leaks, or structural damage.
  • Maintain valves and pipelines, lubricate and test valves, inspect and repair pipeline leaks or blockages.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and perform root‑cause failure analysis to eliminate repeat maintenance issues.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to minimize production disruptions.
  • Follow all safety protocols, OSHA and company standards.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance with OSHA and company safety policies.
  • Apply welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick) as required.
  • Complete all work in accordance with EPA, OSHA, NED, NFPA
    70 standards.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; technical certification or associate degree in industrial maintenance preferred.
  • Journeyman Electrician certification.
  • Minimum 7 years in manufacturing or industrial maintenance; 5 years in a manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems, industrial electricity, and PLCs.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
  • Experience with manufacturing equipment and tools (e.g., lathes, grinders, welding equipment).
  • Familiarity with CMMS is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or on‑call as needed.
  • Forklift and scissor lift certified.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift up to 50 lbs; climb, kneel, stand for extended periods.
  • Operate in a manufacturing plant with noise, heat, and moving machinery.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Work in confined spaces and at heights; climb ladders as required.
  • Stand for extended periods and work in tight spaces.
