Plumber, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- Perform journey-level plumbing in the installation, repair and maintenance of a wide variety of plumbing fixtures and equipment, such as valves, control devices, pumps, boilers, toilets, faucets, water and sewer lines and gas and air lines.
- Replace defective parts in plumbing fixtures and systems and repair existing systems; repair or replace sewer lines.
- Rebuild and replace toilet valves, faucets and plumbing valves.
- Determine problems with water systems; repair valves, faucets and toilets and assist in ordering replacement parts as necessary; repair or replace drinking fountains or related parts.
- Inspect, test, repair and certify backflow prevention devices; maintain related records.
- Install rough plumbing; set fixtures, move vents and rough plumbing and reinstall fixtures.
- Perform soldering and welding repair work.
- Review plumbing plans and specifications for conformity to codes, regulations and safety orders.
- Estimate materials and labor needed; maintain records related to work performed; order plumbing supplies and materials according to established procedures.
- Communicate with administrators, other skilled maintenance personnel and other concerning plumbing issues and information.
- Operate a variety of maintenance and plumbing tools and power equipment such as pipe threading equipment, power snake, power drill, saws, grinder, air compressor and jack hammer, and other hand and power tools.
- Operate a District vehicle to conduct work.
- Assist in installing, repairing and maintaining heating systems and controls; repair and maintain boilers.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of: Methods, material, shop math, tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade.
- Knowledge of: Applicable plumbing codes and regulations.
- Knowledge of: Health and safety regulations.
- Knowledge of: Technical aspects of field of specialty.
- Knowledge of: Rules and regulations involved in inspecting, testing, repair and maintaining records for backflow prevention.
- Ability to: Perform skilled duties and the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures and systems.
- Ability to: Inspect, test, repair and certify backflow prevention devices; install, diagnose, repair and maintain heating systems and controls.
- Ability to: Repair and maintain boilers and water heaters.
- Ability to: Understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to: Work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to: Meet schedules and time lines.
- Ability to: Maintain routine records.
- Ability to: Use a variety of tools and power equipment utilized in the basic trade.
- Ability to: Lift heavy objects.
- Ability to: Work from blueprints, shop drawings and sketches.
- Ability to: Perform heavy physical labor.
Any combination equivalent to: two years journey-level plumbing experience.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Valid California driver's license; positions in this class are required to obtain a Certificate of Competence issued by the County Health Department to test backflow devices within six months of hire. Employees in this classification must maintain insurability at the District's standard rate during the term of employment. Asbestos Containing Building Materials (ACBM) training.
