The Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington, Wyoming, is seeking a Journeyman Electrician to join our facilities team. This position performs journey-level electrical work, including construction, remodeling, repair, and preventive maintenance of electrical systems in state facilities.
The work of this position directly supports the safety, security, and daily operations of the institution by ensuring electrical systems function reliably and in compliance with applicable codes. The Journeyman Electrician helps maintain a safe, well-maintained, and comfortable environment for staff, inmates, visitors, and the public.

- Responsible for and specializes in electrical design, installation, alteration, troubleshooting, repair, and inspection of main and branch circuits of interior and exterior electrical systems.
- Repairs power distribution, transformers, emergency generators, and other miscellaneous electrical components.
- Performs planning, estimating, and commissioning of new construction and renovations of electrical systems and equipment, which requires being directly involved in calculating and balancing three-phase panel loads.
- Reads electrical blueprints, diagrams, wiring schematics, and other drawings.
- Compiles documents, analyzes test data, and performs electrical calculations to determine the source of problems and the corrective action to take.
- Uses various electrical test instruments to determine power requirements and availability.
- Responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable workplace, including participation in initiatives designed to promote a positive work environment.
Preference may be given to those with four (4) years of progressive work experience in Electrical Trades with the acquired knowledge at the level of an Electrician, plus a Journeyman Electrician License.
KNOWLEDGE- Knowledge of basic electrical, refrigeration, heating, air conditioning, and welding theory.
- Knowledge of the application of electrical and other test equipment.
- Possesses the knowledge to provide a wide range of electrical expertise in the new build, repair, remodel, and refurbishment of electrical systems.
- Knowledge of State and Local electrical codes.
Education: As required by the licensing board
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Journeyman's Electrician License
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS- Must be able to work in varied or extreme weather conditions
- Ability to work in tight spaces
- Ability to walk great distances throughout the facility and grounds
- Standing for long periods
- Stooping, kneeling, stretching, bending, swatting, and reaching on an occasional but prolonged basis
- Ability to lead inmate work crews
