Hours: Full-time, Monday-Friday (term time only)

Overview

Are you a graduate looking to gain hands‑on experience supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? We are seeking passionate, enthusiastic, and committed individuals to join a fantastic SEN school in Totnes and the surrounding areas. This is an excellent opportunity to spend a full academic year working as a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, gaining invaluable classroom experience before pursuing teacher training or a career in education.

The school supports students aged 7‑18 across multiple sites, each specialising in different Key Stages. Their nurturing, inclusive environment focuses on academic progress, emotional well‑being, and building resilience.

Responsibilities
  • Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to students with SEN
  • Support students inside and outside the classroom to help them engage fully in learning
  • Assist teachers with lesson delivery, classroom activities, and behaviour support
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with students
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
  • Encourage students' academic, social, and emotional development
  • Maintain high expectations for student progress and engagement
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to meet individual needs
Qualifications
  • A degree at 2:2 or above
  • A caring, patient, and enthusiastic approach to working with young people
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for supporting students with learning difficulties
  • Ability to work effectively within a team
  • An understanding of the needs of young people with SEN (desirable)
  • Experience working with children or young people (preferred but not essential)
  • Commitment to inclusion and equal opportunities
  • A valid DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
