Description

At Aston Martin Formula One, performance starts with engineering excellence. We are seeking a Materials Engineer to join our Structures and Materials Group, supporting the development, testing, and analysis of advanced materials that contribute directly to the performance and reliability of our Formula One cars.

As a Materials Engineer, you will play a key role in materials testing, analysis, and development. Working closely with colleagues across the Materials Group and Design Office, you will generate valuable engineering insights through testing and investigation, while supporting the development of new materials, processes, and laboratory capabilities.

This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive engineer to work with cutting‑edge composite, metallic and non‑metallic materials in a fast‑paced, high‑performance environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct mechanical testing, metallographic assessment, and analytical evaluation of composite, metallic, and non‑metallic materials.
  • Interpret test data, identify trends, and provide engineering recommendations to support development programmes.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including tensile test systems, FTIR, DMA, DSC, and microscopy tools.
  • Prepare adhesive bond, composite, and metallographic samples for testing and failure investigations.
  • Record, analyse, and report laboratory results, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and high‑quality engineering interpretation.
  • Support component failure investigations through sample preparation, evidence gathering, root‑cause analysis, and technical reporting.
  • Contribute to the development of new materials, test methods, specifications, and process documentation.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory and collaborate with other departments to solve technical challenges.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Degree‑qualified (or equivalent) in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of composite and metallic materials used within automotive or high‑performance engineering applications.
  • Experience using laboratory test equipment and analytical techniques, including mechanical testing and materials characterisation methods.
  • Understanding of composite test specimen preparation and testing methodologies.
  • Experience with metallographic specimen preparation and analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and deliver results to demanding timescales.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues across multiple disciplines.
