ABILITY is a community-focused organization operating on-demand bus services across Northamptonshire and North Oxfordshire since 2018. Our fleet of luxury minibuses connects hamlets, villages, and market towns, providing reliable access to essential services. We aim to combat social isolation and loneliness by ensuring rural residents have transportation to main shopping areas such as Northampton, Towcester, Brackley, Bicester, Daventry, Milton Keynes, and Banbury.

Our services are free for individuals with valid bus passes, underscoring our commitment to making a positive impact on communities.

This role is based in Towcester for a Non-Executive Director. The selected candidate will contribute to the strategic direction of ABILITY, ensuring the organisation achieves its mission. Key responsibilities include providing governance and oversight, advising the executive team, shaping policies, and assessing risks to ensure sustainability. The role involves supporting decision-making, monitoring organizational performance, and fostering community partnerships.

• Strong leadership and governance skills, with experience in strategic planning and decision-making
• Knowledge of public transport services, community services, or non-profit organisations
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with stakeholders
• Business acumen and financial literacy to evaluate budgets and ensure financial sustainability
• Experience in building networks and partnerships within communities
• An understanding of social impact and strategies to address rural isolation is highly desirable
• Flexible and collaborative mindset to contribute effectively in an on-site, team-oriented environment
• Understanding of bus service operation, regulations, and demand response operations
