Senior Audit Manager / $$$ / 30 person firm / Rapidly growing Audit Practice / Very hands-on roleA bit about us:

A Bit About Us

Our client is a well-established, progressive mid-sized CPA firm located in the Baltimore/Towson area. For more than 30 years, the firm has provided high-quality accounting, tax, audit, and management advisory services to closely held businesses and their owners.

The firm combines the technical expertise and capabilities of a larger accounting organization with the personal attention and close client relationships of a smaller practice. Their approach is highly relationship-driven, with a strong focus on providing practical financial guidance, proactive tax planning, and advisory services that help clients improve profitability and operating efficiency.

With an established reputation for quality and exceptional client service, the firm continues to grow and expand its practice.

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to join a highly respected CPA firm where you can have a direct impact on a growing practice and build a long-term career.

The firm is actively expanding its review practice and has added several new engagements recently. This position will play an important role in managing and performing those engagements while helping continue to build this area of the business.

This is specifically designed for a hands-on accounting professional. The firm is not looking for someone who simply delegates work. You'll have the opportunity to manage engagements, work directly with clients, remain involved in the technical work, and help maintain the firm's high standards for quality.

For the right individual, there is a clear path toward increased responsibility and potential equity/Partner-level ownership.

Additional highlights include:

  • $110K–$190K+ compensation range (depending on experience)
  • Equity opportunity
  • 20 days of PTO
  • 401(k)
  • Approximately 80% employer-paid healthcare
  • Approximately 40-hour workweeks outside of busy season
  • Strong, collaborative culture
  • Flexibility for occasional remote work
Job Details

Our client is seeking an experienced public accounting professional to help manage and grow its review practice.

The firm currently performs approximately a dozen review engagements, primarily for clients in the construction industry, with revenues generally ranging from $5 million to $100 million. The practice is growing, creating an opportunity for an experienced professional to take ownership of these engagements and play a key role in expanding the firm's capabilities.

This is a hands-on leadership position. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing engagements while also performing the work themselves. This is not a role for someone who wants to simply delegate or operate exclusively at a high level. The firm is looking for someone who understands the details, follows engagement checklists, takes ownership of the work, and is committed to delivering a high-quality product to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and perform review engagements from planning through completion.
  • Work directly with clients and build strong, long-term relationships.
  • Remain hands-on with engagement execution and technical accounting work.
  • Coordinate and oversee staff while maintaining direct involvement in the engagements.
  • Apply professional judgment to accounting and financial reporting matters.
  • Help build and expand the firm's growing review practice.
  • Primarily serve closely held businesses, including construction-industry clients.
  • Collaborate with Partners and other professionals on accounting, tax, and advisory needs.
  • Assist with compilation engagements and review of tax return work papers as needed.
Ideal Candidate:
  • CPA preferred.
  • Strong public accounting background with significant review engagement experience.
  • Proven ability to manage engagements while remaining hands-on.
  • Strong understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles.
  • Excellent client communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Construction industry experience is a plus.
  • Compilation and tax experience is a plus.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and interest in growing into a Senior Manager, Director, Principal, or Partner/equity-level position.
