Job Summary
Social Worker at Baltimore County Public Library (BCPL) supports library customers who are experiencing homelessness, mental health, or substance‑abuse issues, while partnering with staff to advance Whole Person Librarianship.
Responsibilities- Provide one‑on‑one assistance to library customers in person, on the phone, or virtually.
- Engage in proactive outreach with customers experiencing behavioral health challenges and partner with local community providers and events.
- Provide direct intervention using clinical skills during a customer’s behavioral‑health crisis.
- Assist library staff in appropriate navigation, debriefing, and post‑crisis support.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with organizations and Baltimore County agencies that serve vulnerable customers.
- Refer customers to housing, employment, education, income, food security, health care, and other service agencies.
- Connect customers with library resources and provide access, instruction, and related training.
- Design and implement public programs, such as coffee circles and resource fairs, that foster inclusion and equity.
- Educate library staff on domestic violence, child abuse, and adult abuse, and industry best practices.
- Develop staff resource sheets, guides, web content, and specialized programming for vulnerable customers.
- Facilitate trauma‑informed training for library staff to enhance service delivery.
- Complete community needs assessments to inform capital projects and strategic planning.
- Collaborate with staff to develop measurable program outcomes, reporting methods, and performance metrics.
- Master’s degree in Social Work.
- Current LCSW‑C licensure, active and in good standing with the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.
- Minimum of three years of post‑graduate experience providing direct clinical services.
- Experience in crisis de‑escalation, training, and systems navigation preferred.
- Experience in group facilitation or workshop development preferred.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Willingness and ability to acquire knowledge of library computer systems and applications.
Bargaining Unit Status:
Eligible
Salary Range: $65,136 - $92,690
