Position
Assistant Professor Mathematics Department of Mathematics. The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track 9-month Assistant Professor position in the Department of Mathematics. Preferred start date August 2026.
QualificationsCandidates must possess a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in mathematics, applied mathematics, or statistics by August 2026. Candidates should have a strong research background, potential for external funding, and excellent teaching. Department needs include a mathematician who can contribute to future needs for applications of pure mathematics to emerging fields such as data science, machine learning, quantum computing, or artificial intelligence. Outstanding candidates in other mathematical fields will be given full consideration.
ResponsibilitiesA strong commitment to excellence in teaching mathematics at all levels is essential. Pre‑tenure faculty are assigned an instructional workload of five course units (three credit hours each) per academic year. The successful candidate will establish a productive research program with a willingness to pursue external funding opportunities. The department is strongly committed to undergraduate research.
DepartmentThe Department of Mathematics has 56 full‑time faculty and over 150 math majors. We offer a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics, with optional concentrations in Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, and Secondary Education, as well as three masters degrees in Actuarial Science and Predictive Analytics, Applied and Industrial Mathematics, and Mathematics Education. Towson University is recognized as a Center of Actuarial Excellence by the Society of Actuaries.

Salary and BenefitsTargeted salary range: $79,000 – $83,000 commensurate with experience.
