Program Director, Graduate Nursing Department, School of Nursing & Health Professions

Position Summary:

The Program Director for Graduate Nursing is a 12‑month faculty administrator position with responsibility for leading, managing, and coordinating the Master of Science degree programs in Nursing according to Stevenson University, Stevenson University Online, and the Berman School of Nursing and Health Professions policies and procedures.

The Program Director collaborates with the Chief Nurse Administrator and the Nursing Unit Leadership Team to support the administration of policies and procedures necessary for compliance with the State Board of Nursing, Nurse Practice Act and share responsibility for the program’s accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) by fostering a culture of assessment, continuous quality improvement and adherence to the CCNE Standards for data collection, analysis and reporting.

The Program Director for Graduate Nursing also fulfills all responsibilities of a full‑time faculty member as defined in the Stevenson University Policy Manual and in the Full‑Time Faculty Job Description approved by the faculty of the Berman School of Nursing and Health Professions. The teaching load requirement is 18 contact hours per calendar year.

Education / Experience
  • Doctorate in nursing or related field and a Master’s degree in Nursing required.
  • Minimum 5 years of college level teaching and experience as an academic administrator preferred.
  • Must hold an unencumbered license as registered nurse (RN) by the Maryland Board of Nursing, or licensure with multi‑state practice privilege in another state, or be eligible for licensure in the state of Maryland.

  • Demonstrated excellence as a leader, manager, educator, and scholar.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and enhancement of student academic achievement, including knowledge of and experience with assessment.
  • Knowledge of best practices in nursing education and assessment, including AACN Essentials of Baccalaureate and Master’s Nursing Education, CCNE accreditation standards and State Board of Nursing standards.
  • Ability to recruit, coach, manage, support, and develop faculty.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to build effective partnerships with clinical agencies and external organizations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills; skill in conflict resolution and demonstrated team‑building ability.
  • Commitment to scholarly activity and professional development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel; database management and other computer skills valued.
  • Experience in implementing and assessing competency‑based education (CBE) in nursing.
  • Experience with curriculum development, implementation, and assessment.
  • Outstanding technology and organizational skills including Blackboard or similar platforms.
  • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse teams of faculty, staff, and program coordinators.
  • Proven ability to develop effective course materials, syllabi, lesson plans, lectures, and workshops for students or faculty.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements

Medium work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Requires sitting for long periods and the ability to speak clearly and effectively for extended periods, including days, evenings, and weekends.

  • Serve as the first point of contact for students, faculty, staff and others regarding questions, complaints, and issues pertaining to graduate nursing programs.
