Vacancies exist in the Department of Public Works and Transportation, Bureau of Engineering & Construction, Sewer Design. A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below. Current and future vacancies within this class may be filled from that list. - Performs various work in the design of engineering projects, including drafting and reviewing plans, determining right-of-way requirements, writing special provisions, and preparing construction estimates and technical studies.
- Manages the design, review, and approval of capital improvement projects.
- Reviews and coordinates the work of in-house staff and consultants.
- Coordinates project schedules and deadlines.
- Operates computers and peripheral equipment to perform GIS work and computer-aided drafting and design of engineering drawings, plans and projects.
- Operates computers to conduct hydraulic/hydrologic, structural, survey, highways, traffic control, and other engineering related studies.
- Performs periodic field inspections of construction projects such as buildings, sanitary sewers, storm drains, water systems, bridges, and highways.
- Investigates and responds to engineering related complaints from the public.
- Recommends approval or disapproval of plans and specifications for water and sewer projects.
- Leads and assists less experienced and subordinate personnel.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering.
PLUS
Two years' field or office engineering experience.
Additional qualifying education beyond a bachelor's degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
OR
Possession of a certificate of registration as an Engineer in Training issued by a State within the United States of America, plus two years' field or office engineering experience.
Licenses and CertificatesPossession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license may be required for some positions at the time of appointment.
Proof of License(s), Certification(s) and EducationApplicants are required to submit proof of license(s), certification(s) and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
