EHS Battery Safety Specialist at Stanley Black & Decker, Inc.

Job OverviewAs an EHS Battery Safety Specialist, you will support the Towson EHS team as an onsite employee, developing and implementing battery safety programs, performing risk assessments, conducting audits, training, and serving as the battery emergency response leader.
Responsibilities- Develop battery safety programs and requirements related to research, new product development, and compliance testing per the Battery Safety Playbook and regulatory requirements.
- Represent the EHS team in partnership with test, engineering, and compliance teams to integrate engineering controls into processes and facilities, and participate in battery testing safety reviews.
- Perform risk assessment analysis on all aspects of battery testing on the site.
- Participate in incident investigation for battery‑related events.
- Conduct fire and life safety audits of new and existing battery areas, maintain NFPA compliance and present findings to site management.
- Deliver Battery Safety training, Labhood safe use training, and other related training.
- Serve on the Battery Emergency Response Team, participating in preparedness and responding to incidents.
- Manage battery recycling for Towson, Mylander & White Marsh sites, developing protocols for safe battery discharge and disposal.
- Act as site lithium battery transportation expert, maintaining hazardous materials hazardous goods transportation procedures and training.
- Recommend battery storage programs, including selection and construction of cell block recycling cabinets, inspections, and audits.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- 5+ years of experience in batteries, electronics, manufacturing, R&D, hazardous materials/dangerous goods shipping, or a related technical field; or an associate’s degree in a related field.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding NPD environment.
- Ability to work with decision makers in a matrix environment.
- Familiarity with DOT, IATA, ICAO, PHMSA, and other regulations regarding battery transport.
- Deep knowledge of Lithium‑Ion batteries.
- Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical design, operation, and testing skills.
- Environmental, Health and Safety expertise.
- Hazardous Materials Management/Transportation proficiency.
- Base pay range: $60,800 - $90,000 per year (Maryland).
